CHP partnering with Placer County deputies for Labor Day traffic safety
Increased patrols, DUI checkpoints planned for holiday weekend
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is teaming up with the Placer County Sheriff's Office to increase patrols and conduct DUI checkpoints throughout the county during the Labor Day holiday weekend.
The increased enforcement is part of the CHP's statewide "Maximum Enforcement Period" (MEP), which runs from 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, to 11:59 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5.
During the MEP, the CHP will have all available officers on patrol, focusing on enforcing traffic laws and preventing crashes.
What to expect during the MEP:
- Increased patrols on highways and roads throughout Placer County
- DUI checkpoints at various locations
- Officers looking for drivers who are speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or committing other traffic violations
The CHP urges drivers to be safe during the holiday weekend by following these tips:
- Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Obey the speed limit and other traffic laws
- Be aware of your surroundings and other drivers
- Take breaks during long drives
- Buckle up every time you get in a vehicle
The CHP reports that there were 40 fatal crashes on California roadways during last year's Labor Day weekend, resulting in 44 deaths.
The CHP is committed to reducing traffic fatalities and injuries on Placer County roadways. By working together with the Placer County Sheriff's Office, the CHP aims to ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend for everyone.
